Bring balance to your body
Bring balance to your body and mind on an inspirational cookery class that focuses on the plant-based cuisine of Buddhist monks. Buddhism discourages the killing of animals so those practicing the religion avoid eating fish or meat and instead cook traditional vegan dishes. The process requires ingredients to be treated with care as they are incorporated into the meal. You will enjoy a tour of the Buddhist temple near the hotel and learn about the tradition of Shojin Ryori, the Japanese Buddhist cooking style that favors subtle flavours over the use of stronger ingredients like garlic and onion. Under the watchful eyes of expert chefs, you will then cook and enjoy seasonal sweets served with Japanese green tea inside the temple grounds.
The cookery course runs all year round. The start time is flexible and the course lasts around two hours.
The class is held at Akasaka, Minato-ward, a 10-minute walk from The Okura Tokyo
Please make your reservation for the cookery class at least seven days in advance
