The Okura Tour “A Short Journey through History and Design”

Step into the Okura Prestige Tower's lobby and experience the essence of Japan. The original space was designed by Yoshiro Taniguchi and opened its doors in 1962. In 2014, the decision was taken to rebuild the hotel. With a nod to the lobby's past glories, Yoshiro's son, Yoshio Taniguchi, preserved the feel of the original space and it opened to the world in 2019 as an homage to his father's vision. It now has the feel of an alcove in a Japanese reception room in which art is meant to be displayed. Each table has five chairs arranged like the petals of plum blossoms, while the clock has intricate sailing ships on an image of the globe with Japan at the center. Lights hanging from the ceiling add a hint of glamor to the timeless atmosphere. Experience the lobby as a classical music venue every month at Lobby Concert 25.
