Experience timeless traditions at a tea ceremony
The hotel's Urasenke 'Yuin'-style Chosho-an tea room was originally designed by architect Mitsuhiko Otani but it was dismantled when the main hotel was rebuilt. The new Yoshio Taniguchi-designed hotel repositioned the tea room adjacent to the Yamazato restaurant and revived this timeless tradition. Today, Chosho-an is a peaceful retreat where guests can enjoy an authentic Japanese tea ceremony.
Learn about the history of the tea ceremony on an introductory course where you are served tea and confectionary. Marvel at the room's incredibly detailed craftsmanship, from its coffered bamboo ceiling to the wooden floor beams that have been polished smooth after years of use, then take your place at a table to enjoy the ceremony in an atmosphere rich with the essence of Japanese culture.
You can enjoy this traditional ceremony all year round on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays between 12:00 and 16:00 hours (last entry at 15:30 hours)
The Chosho-an tea room can be found on the fourth floor of the Okura Heritage Wing at Yamazato restaurant
Please reserve your space at the tea ceremony at least seven days in advance
The ceremony costs ¥3,000 per person (minimum two people), which includes consumption tax and a 15% service charge
This traditional tea ceremony lasts approximately 30 minutes
